 What happens to a certificate? A diamond certificate can also be a diamond rating report or a diamond quality report. A stone gemologist examines it under a microscope and reports on its dimensions, clarity, cut, color, symmetry and other properties. The valid certificates are issued by organizations such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or American Gem Society Laboratories (AGSL), not by jewelers.
